MOSES LAKE - Students living along Patton Boulevard and in the Larson Heights Elementary service district will attend the new Endeavor Middle School. Moses Lake School Board members voted to accept the recommendation of a committee that worked on the boundary adjustments at their March 27 meeting.

All kids who live on Patton Boulevard, whether they live in the Larson Heights or North service district, will attend Endeavor (the former Columbia Basin Secondary School). Kids who live in the North service district, but don't live along Patton, will attend Frontier Middle School. All Larson Heights district students will attend Endeavor.

Kids who live in the area around Lakeview Elementary School currently attend Frontier, but they will be moved to Chief Moses Middle School, district superintendent Michelle Price said. Looking at the district as a whole, the Frontier service area is seeing some population growth, Price said, so district officials want to make more room for growth at Frontier.

In other business, district officials will be taking applications through April 18 for an open seat on the school board. Board member Allan Burritt announced his resignation at the March 13 meeting, and made it official with a letter March 27.

Burritt, who was elected to the board in 1999, said he's resigning because he's moving out of state. His resignation will be effective May 31.

The new board member will serve to the end of Burritt's term in 2015. Applicants must live in MLSB Director District No. 1, which includes the area west of Stratford Avenue, all of Cascade Valley, Patton Boulevard and the area around it, and north to the district boundary.

Following a suggestion from Price, board members decided to review applications at the April 24 meeting, and schedule interviews the following week. Board members accepted Price's suggestion that the new board member should be selected by early May, although not officially appointed until the June 12 meeting.

Debbie Doran-Martinez attended the meeting to talk about the administration of the technical education program.

Currently Christine Johnson is the program administrator, but Johnson will be head of the Columbia Basin Skills Center when it opens later this year. Doran-Martinez, a member of the advisory board, said the program needed an administrator, a person focused on it and keeping it running. Price had letters signed by advisory board members of the culinary and auto tech programs, expressing the same concern.

Price said the problem apparently arose from a misunderstanding. One administrator at Moses Lake High School will be in charge of the program, she said, but there was a misunderstanding that the duties would be parceled out to four administrators. (A fourth assistant principal is being added at Moses Lake High School.)

In a later interview, Price said that administrator may have other responsibilities, depending on the high school's needs. During the meeting she said assigning a fulltime administrator to the position will depend on revenues. District officials want to get a clear picture of revenues before moving forward, she said.
