A developmentally disabled Whitefish man has pleaded not guilty to felony sexual abuse of children after allegedly having a sexual video-chat tryst with an 11-year-old girl.

Caleb Davis, 24, entered the plea March 27 in Flathead District Court.

According to a court document, Davis allegedly began communicating with the girl in April 2013 through Facebook text and video messaging as well as by phone. The girl reportedly told Davis she was 14.

The document also states that after finding a message from Davis on the girl’s Facebook account, her mother sent him a message saying, “She is 11 ... back off.”

Davis was arrested and incarcerated in the Flathead County Detention Center with bond set at $60,000, but he was later released on his own recognizance. The release came with the requirements that he have no contact with the victim and no access to a smartphone or computer. He also is to remain on informal house arrest, living with his mother.

Davis also was ordered to have no contact with anyone under age 18.

If convicted, Davis faces between four and 100 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

His next hearing is set for May 7.
