Wild clinch playoff spot

WENATCHEE - Despite closing the season with two losses to the Aberdeen Wings, the Wenatchee Wild is headed to the playoffs.
"I think the playoffs was a big accomplishment with this group," head coach Bliss Littler said. "Where we started to where we're at and with having to play as shorthanded as we did tonight, I'm proud of our guys."
The Wild dropped the two-game set against Aberdeen, 3-2, and 3-0.
Parker Tuomie opened the scoring for the Wild with a power play goal assisted by Troy Loggins and Alex Rauter.
Wenatchee stretched its lead to 2-0 in the second period after David Powlowski scored another power play goal.
However, the Wings scored moments later and tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period before squeaking home the game-winner in overtime.
"I liked our effort," Littler said. "It would have been nice to finish them off, but with only playing three lines, I was happy with our effort."
Aberdeen took a 1-0 first period lead in the season finale and notched two more goals in the third period.
Wenatchee was unable to beat Aberdeeen's Henry Dill, who recorded 31 saves.
"The difference was their goaltender tonight," Littler said. "Their goalie played very well and maybe we needed a little more moxie getting to the front of the net."
Wenatchee (29-23-8) will play the Minnesota Wilderness in the first round of the Robertson Cup playoffs. The series begins April 4 and 5 before moving to Wentachee April 11.
