Youth sports: Select soccer, wrestling, rec basketball and more

SELECT SOCCER

Coeur d'Alene Sting under-15 girls Osborne-Moss: The Sting beat FC Spokane 1-0 on March 15. Katie Knack scored the lone goal, and Emily Parson posted the shutout in goal.

On March 22, the Sting tied the FC Spokane Breakers Anderson 1-1. Kayla Fagan scored for the Sting.

The Sting beat the Spokane Foxes FC 2-0 on March 23. Kassi Hoots scored a goal off an assist by Elaine Vedder for the Sting, and Hailey Gordon assisted in a goal.

Sting U9 boys Napoli: The Sting lost 8-2 to the Strikers Arsenal U10 boys on Saturday. Landon Lee and Jack Boettcher scored for the sting.

Sting U9 boys Arsenal: The Sting fell 4-1 to the Striker Liverpool U10 squad. Nate Wyatt scored for the Sting.

Sting U8 boys: The Sting beat the Spokane Shadow-Pennestri 2-1 at Hayden Meadows Soccer Complex on Saturday. Connor Jump and Zachary Anderson each had one goal for the Sting, and Brayden Ristic and Roman Festner each had one assist. Connor Jump, Gunner Larson, Kyle Taylor and Ben Linford teamed for the win in goal.

Sting U11 girls: The Sting, coached by Jason Wyatt and Camron Cutler, started out the spring season last weekend with a 4-1 loss against FC Spokane Storm Showalter. Riley Anderson scored the Sting's only goal, assisted by Dillen Duncan and Claire Romero.

Also on Sunday, the Sting beat the Spokane Foxes FC 02 Black 4-2. Claire Romero scored a hat trick, and Kamryn Becker scored once. Alexandra Plucker had seven saves in goal.

The Academy Idaho U11/12 girls: The Academy beat ASE 1-0 last Sunday, on a goal by Sarah Hines.

Academy Idaho U14 boys: The Academy won two games this week, first beating FC Spokane 3-1 and following it up with a 3-0 win over the Othello Cobras. The Academy is now 2-0 in the Puget Sound Premier League.

Academy Idaho U11 girls: The Academy won both games last weekend.

On Saturday the Academy beat the Spokane Storm 3-0. Kaylee Moate had two goals and an assist for the Academy, Sarah Hines had a goal and an assist, and Kendall Pickford had an assist. Sophia Morlan notched the shutout in goal.

On Sunday, the Academy beat the Spokane Foxes 3-1. Sarah Hines had two goals and and an assist for the Academy. Lilith Tweedy had one goal, Tressa Mullen an assist.

Sting U9 boys Manchester: The Sting fell 3-2 to the Lakeland U10 boys 3-2 last Saturday. Both Manchester goals were both scored by Nate Wyatt.

Sting U13 girls Galaxy: The Sting traveled to Othello, Wash., last Saturday and beat the U14 Cobra Wombats 5-2. The first goal scored by Sydnee Rud and the following by Lexi Medina. Maddie Morris scored two goals with one assist from Sydnee Rud and the other from Chloe Teets. The final goal was scored by Sydnee Rud, assisted by Erika Skindlov.

The following day in Richland, Wash., the Sting lost 1-0 to the ASE 99 Royal.

Sting U17 girls Hogan: The Sting tied SoccerEdge Academy FC G96 Black 1-1. Meg Lowery scored for the Sting, assisted by Aitana Vernon. Tiegan Horton had three saves.

Sting U10 girls Reign (Corette): The Sting tied the Shadow-Wombach team 2-2: Taytum Curtis and Gabrielle Roberts each scored once for the Sting.

WRESTLING

Team Real Life won the small team title for the fourth year in a row at the Montana Open on March 30 in Billings. More than 1,300 wrestlers on 172 teams from six states competed in the three-day event held at the Rimrock Auto Arena. Team Real Life won the small team title with 12 wrestlers.

Nick Horton, Ridge Lovett, Brayden Huber and Alius De La Rosa all won championships. Kyler Anstrom and Brad Wiggs and Luke Grisafi each placed third. Abel De La Rosa was fifth and Jason Burchell was sixth.

On Feb. 23 in Butte, Mont., Team Real Life claimed the large team championship at the Butte Cyclops Folkstyle Championships. 18 Team Real Life wrestlers compete at the annual event.

Brelane Huber, Able De La Rosa, Ridge Lovett and Matthew McLeod all won championships for TRL, which has won the event the last three years. Bradd Wiggs, Jason Burchell and Brayden Huber each placed second. Tyler Morris was third, and Roddy Romero and Garit Davis each finished fourth. Jordan Grimm, Dakota Roberts and Wyatt Shelly each were fifth, Bryce Gardner sixth and Coleton Kazmierczak seventh.

On Feb. 22 Team Real Life won the East Middle School Invitational. Team Real Life placed 16 of 17 wrestlers to win the medium-size team championship.
