MOSES LAKE - Prospective job seekers will be able to learn about and ask questions of more than 60 companies, agencies and colleges at the Job and Career Fair at Big Bend Community College April 17.

The career fair will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the ATEC building on the BBCC campus, Doug Sly, the college's public information director, said. Along with the prospective employers, 11 representatives of BBCC programs will have booths and information available, he said.

In addition, WorkSource moves its office to BBCC for the day. There are workshops to help prospective employees write a resume, prepare for a job interview and complete job applications.

"There is no other place in this area where you can touch base with so many employers in one location and in one day," said Deborah Correll, chair of the event steering committee.

Businesses that have registered for booths include manufacturers, technology, aerospace, health care, service industries, food processors and retailers. The BBCC programs that provide training for specific jobs will set up booths adjacent to the employers, Sly said.

A free workshop will focus on tips for decreasing stress during a job search, he said. That's from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Three additional free workshops are scheduled, titled "What are Employers Really Looking for in Job Candidates?" Sly said.

The employer panels, detailing requirements in different industries, begin at 10:30 a.m. The manufacturing employer panel is from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., followed by a health care employer panel at 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The community employer panel is from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.

"People attending the fair have an opportunity to interview the company and ask questions," Correll said. "It's also a great opportunity for those not looking for a job right now to discover the key employers in the Grant County area and what they are looking for in employees."

The list of participating companies is available on the college website, Sly said, and is updated regularly.

The current roster includes Odom Corporation, SVZ-USA, Lamb Weston BSW/ConAgra Foods, BBSI, McCain Foods, Aviation Technical Services, Prestige Care, Quincy Foods, Rescare Homecare and Confluence Health-Moses Lake.

Others are National Frozen Foods, SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers, Horizon Credit Union, Honey Bucket, Fastenal Company, Samaritan Healthcare, Columbia Basin Hospital and Rhino NW.

Also on the roster are Interfor US, LTI/Milky Way, Western Polymer Corporation, Skagit Transportation, Hillsboro Aviation, Columbia Colstor, D&L Foundry, Takata, REC Silicon, J.R. Simplot and Sonico Incorporated.

Safeway, Genie/Aerotek, Frito-Lay, Odessa Memorial Healthcare, Country Financial, Genesis HealthCare/Columbia Crest, Star West Satellite and Grant County Radio are among other businesses planning to attend. Others are the Home Care Referral Registry, Total Employment and Management, Express Employment Professionals and Best Human Resource Solutions.

Grant County, Adams County Development Council, Job Corps (Dynamic Educational Systems), Family Services of Grant County, Skill Source, the Grant County Sheriff's Office, Washington Parks and Recreation and DSHS are among the agencies registered.

The Army National Guard and U.S. Navy will have booths. Educational organizations attending include Heritage University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Big Bend programs with information booths include automotive technology, commercial pilot training and aviation maintenance, business information management, computer science, the STEM center, industrial systems technology, Commercial Driver's License, medical assistant, nursing and welding technology.
