EPHRATA - Public safety agencies will host the 14th annual Chief for a Day on June 12 on the front lawn of the Grant County Courthouse.

Chief for a Day celebrates the lives of nine children from throughout the county who endure and overcome considerable physical or developmental challenges every day. Each child is honored as chief of a local law enforcement or fire agency.

"This is a really great and important occasion, and each year the experience is heartwarming," Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones said.

Chief for a Day is hosted by law enforcement and fire agencies, including the Grant County Sheriff's Office, Mattawa Police Department, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement, the Washington State Patrol, and more.

Chief for a Day is sponsored by the Thomas A. Boruff Foundation, an Ephrata-based nonprofit organization focused on assisting special needs children in the U.S. and Mexico.

For information on Chief for a Day, contact the Sheriff's Office at 509-754-2011 ext. 468.
