On schedule

COEUR d'ALENE - McEuen Park is slated to open May 2, less than a month away, said Keith Erickson, a spokesman for the city.
Bobcats, backhoes and dump trucks have been working overtime for the past month and many of the amenities in the park are beginning to take shape.
"We are definitely on schedule now," Erickson said, adding the nice weather has been cooperative. "Every day, it is amazing how much it changes."
Erickson said crews are just wrapping up the infrastructure work on Third Street at the intersections of Sherman and Lakeside avenues.
The infrastructure is necessary to accommodate two-way traffic on the first two blocks of Third Street, which is currently a one-way southbound street.
"The curbing is all done, and they are currently working on the sidewalks," he said. "They will finish paving sometime within the next two weeks. It may be earlier than that, but the asphalt companies are just getting started this season."
In the park itself, Erickson said construction workers have carved out the trail system and finished most of the concrete work around the new Harbor House.
They are also paving the promenade that runs along the south side of Front Avenue.
"Next week there will be temporary closures on Front while the crews work on the promenade," he said.
The section of Front between Second and Third streets is being transformed into a pedestrian corridor, and that project is also on track or ahead of schedule, said John Barlow, who is managing that project for the Hagadone Corporation.
"The project is going terrific," he said. "There is a lot of teamwork going on. It's a real good atmosphere down there."
Barlow said rain is expected throughout the weekend, but that shouldn't be much of a problem. Weather will improve early next week.
"Those guys were down there working in T-shirts (Thursday)," he said. "They are doing a great job too."
