Polson off to strong start

POLSON — Polson’s tennis team put on a dominant performance in its season-opening weekend, taking care of Libby and Hamilton’s teams on both the boys and the girls side.
“The competition wasn’t real tough,” Pirates coach Bob Hislop conceded, “…but it was still good because we have a group of young kids.”
The Pirate boys were led by familiar faces as state runner-up Dylan McCrumb and third-place finisher Brady Hislop lost just one game combined against their four opponents of the day.
Doubles partners Tommy Mercer and Tyler Dupuis and Quaid Harlan and Thomas Crosby each posted dominant performances against Northwest A rival Libby, too.
“The boys are one of the better teams in the state, so they should probably finish up matches like that,” Hislop said.
The girls got straight-set victories from Shannon Oakley, Marlee Congdon, Mollybeth Hendrix, Shawna Oakley and Olivia Hewston. The Pirate ladies didn’t drop a set in doubles all day, either.
“I was pretty happy with the girls because they’ve got some solid returners, but we also have some really young kids,” said Hislop, noting that his freshmen didn’t lose a match all day.
