Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 10 years, 9 months AGO
Rozella M. Ridenour, 90, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Brendan House in Kalispell.
Rozella was born on July 21, 1923, in Rogers, N.D. to William and Rose (Eggert) Becker.
She graduated from Rogers High School in May of 1940.
Rozella married Darel R. Ridenour on Aug. 5, 1950, in Kalispell and together they raised five children. They bought a pig farm in Lower Valley and lived there, until the flood of 1964 forced them to move to Somers. Rozella loved gardening and had a big garden at their home in Somers. Neighbors always knew, in summer months, that Rozella would have lots of garden-fresh produce for sale. She was locally famous for her delicious dill pickles.
Always up for an adventure, in May of 1999, at age 75, Rozella surprised the family by announcing that she was selling her home in Somers and moving to Homer, Alaska with her daughter Janet and son-in-law Henry, to help them open a Bed and Breakfast. Rozella loved meeting the people that came to stay at the Bed & Breakfast but after one winter decided to come home to Kalispell to be closer to her grandchildren.
Rozella is survived by her four sons, Dale and Kathy of Waterford City, N.D., Wayne and Doreen of Puyallup, Wash., William and Pam, and Glenn and Karen, all of Kalispell; one daughter, Janet and Henry Baldauf of Homer; one sister, Dorothy Schauer, of Ashley N.D.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darel; sister, Galdys Jewitt; and her brother, Pert Becker.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 7 at Johnson-Gloschat funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. A memorial celebration will be held at the Vista Linda in Somers following the graveside services.
