Northwest Pizza moves to Hayden
Nils Rosdahl | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 11 years, 1 month AGO
The "We're Moving!" sign was active for many months, but now it has happened. Northwest Pizza should be opening later this week in the former Ciao Mambo location in Hayden Creek Plaza at 8158 Government Way, moving from 405 W. Neider (north end of the Super Supplements Plaza).
The menu is comprised of the original pizza, salad and wings and has added pasta, soup of the day, dessert, six beers on tap and wine. A specialty is gluten-free pizza. Ten employees will serve up to 44 guests in the 2,700-square-foot place.
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily (until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday until summer). Options include pickup and delivery to Coeur d'Alene and Hayden. Phone 930-4818.
Kootenai County adding building
"Is it the new high-rise?" people ask. No. It's not the controversial high-rise planned for just north of the Chamber of Commerce building downtown. The construction just starting at 331 W. Garden Ave. (just up the hill from Paul Bunyan Burgers on Northwest Boulevard) is a new maintenance and print shop building for Kootenai County.
The two-story, 10,368-square-foot place will replace the current digs maintenance leases at 314 N. Third St. The print shop area in the administration building will be used for offices and a conference room - all in September.
"The county will gain efficiency and functionality," said Commissioner Todd Tondee. "It's the result of the Facilities Master Plan, which studied the space and parking needs of the county's downtown campus."
Artisan Portrait moves in Post Falls

A professional photographer for 17 years, Kibbee Walton won national prizes while serving as the Sentinel photo editor at North Idaho College.

Penwell buys Skyview Storage
Improvements and possible expansion are planned for Skyview Storage. Brad Penwell bought the facility at 3655 Cederblom St. (near Home Depot between Highway 95 and Government Way).
The self-storage facility is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone 765-9483.
Now for the Tidbits
- Next week should include details on The Coeur d'Alene's Restaurant on Ironwood, HomeStyles moving on Government Way, Evergreen Softub coming to Post Falls and Slick Rock Tanning & Spa to the Super Supplements Mall.
- The Hair Extension Shop in Sunset Village Mall of Highway 95 has reopened with the return of owner Mary Murdock recovering from a quadruple bypass surgery. Phone 704-1905.
- All-American Burgers & Sandwiches celebrated its grand reopening at 1801 Sherman Ave.
- A tough death this week was of Dr. Dick Smart after a gallant fight with a brain tumor. Many years ago I had an NIC journalism student with severe dental problems and no money, but Doc Smart fixed it free.
- Avoid "there" as it often means nothing. Instead of "There are five candidates filing..." say "Five candidates filed..."
- We need right-turn lanes from Dalton Avenue north onto both Government Way and Highway 95 and from the Fred Meyer/Parker Toyota exit onto Kathleen Avenue.
- On a church bulletin: "A hymn singing is tonight in the park across from the church, Bring a blanket and come to sin."
- When you've seen one shopping center, you've seen a mall.
