MOSES LAKE - Runners from across the Basin and as far as Seattle whizzed along the streets of Moses Lake Saturday morning. Competitors were racing in 5k, 10k and half-marathon runs hosted by the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Columbia Basin. Proceeds raised from the race will be used for day-to-day operations at the Boys and Girls Club. Organizers were unsure of an exact total, but 106 people competed Saturday. Mitch Molitor, of Moses Lake, took second place in the half-marathon with a time of 1 hour, 24 minutes and 56 seconds. "It's a great course," Molitor said. "It was really fun, the weather was perfect, a lot of good people there. It was well supported." Torsten Lippoldt, who traveled all the way from Spokane Valley, won the half-marathon with a blazing time of 1 hour, 16 minutes and 44 seconds.
After he had crossed the finish line, Molitor raved about Lippoldt and his sub six-minute mile pace. "There was one really fast guy in the half-marathon," he said. "And there wasn't a ton of people but it was good." A group of runners including Lippoldt, Molitor and Moses Lake's Jodi O'Shea will travel to compete in the Boston Marathon on April 21. "It's just for fun," Molitor said. "Whole point is to get out there and enjoy the weather and just enjoy running." Molitor's son, Ander, grabbed first place in the 5k race out of 71 runners. Ander finished the race in just over 20 minutes. Jennifer Gahringer, of Wenatchee, won the 10k with a time of 49 minutes, 41 seconds.
