Twelve North Idaho College graphic design students took home several gold and silver awards at the 2014 Addy Awards in Spokane recently.

The American Advertising Federation-Spokane puts on the annual awards, which is one of the biggest of its kind in the area. All gold and silver awards are eligible for competition at the district level.

Students Roy Bidwell, Rebecca Writz and Teree Taylor, all from Coeur d'Alene, received a Gold Addy Award for developing the website "www.relocatetoidaho.org" for Jobs Plus, Coeur d'Alene's economic development corporation.

"Our partnership with the NIC Web Design program and students in establishing the 'relocatetoidaho' website has been an extraordinary experience, demonstrating a valuable educational partnership and the excellence in our community," said Jobs Plus President Steve Griffitts.

Hannah Shields, from Rathdrum, entered some work as a professional even though she is an NIC student, competing against the area's top advertising and design agencies. Shields won the prestigious Gold Designer's Chair for her sales and promotion campaign for Avion Coffee Roasting Co. In addition, Shields earned a Gold Addy, Best of Division in Elements of Advertising, for her Avion Coffee Roasting Co. website.

She also received a Gold Addy for her logo design for Avion Coffee Roasting Co.

Shields will be representing NIC in the American Advertising Federation national competition May 28 - 31 in Boca Raton, Fla.

Darcy Gross and Corey Jeppesen, both of Coeur d'Alene, won the Toni Marie Robideaux Scholarship based on their design portfolio.

Ryan Maskell, from Post Falls; Ashley Chaffin, from Coeur d'Alene; and Shields received a Gold Addy in Web Design for their work on the "indyahistory.com" website, which showcases the history of Indianapolis.

Leah Hansen, from Seattle; Georges Pons, from New York; Nathan Drechsel, from Coeur d'Alene; Jamie Jensen, from Post Falls; Ernie Bauer, from Priest River; and Joal Chiu, from Hayden, won a Silver Addy for their work on a promotional video for the "relocatetoidaho" website.
