HAYDEN - An offensive Facebook post was blamed for nearly causing a "street fight" to break out in Hayden Saturday.
Three men were arrested on aggravated assault charges after a Hayden woman told police that 20 men brandishing a variety of weapons had challenged her boyfriend to a "street fight."
The woman told police that the men were in three vehicles that arrived at her Wyoming Avenue home around 9 p.m. as she arrived with her boyfriend in the vehicle. She was able to drive away, and told investigating deputies she believed if she had stayed "someone was going to be hurt."
Deputies were able to locate one of the vehicles involved in the incident driving southbound on Government Way. The officers initiated a traffic stop and the maroon passenger car parked in the entrance to Rite Aid in Hayden.
Five men were in the vehicle and, according to the report, were dressed in tank tops, jeans and boots. In his report, the deputy said the men were dressed as though they were prepared "to be involved in a fight."
When deputies conducted a search of the vehicle, they found a large knife, heavy metal pipe, an ax handle, a metal baseball bat and a long metal pole. A metal flashlight was also seized as evidence as possibly being an additional weapon.
Tyler "Monkey" Deyoung, 21; Matthew Thomas, 20; and Paul Sanchez, 24, were taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault. The other two men in the vehicle were released.
According to the incident report, the woman's boyfriend was questioned by deputies and told them that the incident was based on a Facebook posting that caused a large number of people to want to beat him up.
Neither group claims any gang affiliation, but the deputy reported that "it is obvious the two groups have some organization and are against each other." One of the males arrested was, according to the report, wearing rings with references to the Aryan Nation.
