MATTAWA - The Wahluke Warriors are back to their old ways in South Central A Conference soccer, winning their third straight match, 3-0, over Mabton last Saturday.

With a 3-1 mark, the Warriors will take this week off for spring break. They will resume action on April 8 at Warden. Then it will be Granger and Kiona-Benton here on the 10th and 12th.

Saturday's game was tied through the half. Wahluke started to take control 10 minutes into the second period when forward Juan Estrada took a pass from midfielder Luis Veloz and slammed a goal home.

The second goal came from freshman forward Emmanuel Hidalgo in the 56th minute. After some great team passing and a feed from midfielder Ramon Bravo, he was squared up with the Mabton keeper, who charged at him. Hidalgo calmly booted a soft pass past him into the net.

"That was a mature play," coach Arthur deVictoria said.

Wahluke's final goal came in the 61st minute from Bravo unassisted. The Warriors finished with 18 shots on goal, and keeper Alan Caro recorded 10 saves for the defense.

Earlier last week, Wahluke's offense pressured Connell's defense hard and often en route to a 4-1 win. The Warriors had 17 shots on goal. Only their first goal was countered by the Eagles, making the score 1-1 in the 15th minute.

Wahluke's first score was unassisted off the foot of midfielder Juan Estrada. Connell came right back with a goal, but Hermilio Tlatelpa gave the Warriors the lead for good in the 24th minute.

Tlatelpa, a defender, scored off a corner kick by forward Alex Anaya. Anaya added the third goal off a feed from midfielder Ramon Bravo.

Estrada made the score 4-1 in the 78th minute.

He broke up an attack by Connell, dribbled down the sideline nearly the length of the field and shot the ball past the keeper.
