HAYDEN - The Coeur d'Alene Sting Soccer Club has applied for a special-use permit to establish a soccer complex on 40 acres in Hayden.

A public hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. April 21, in front of the Hayden planning and zoning commission at City Hall, said Sandy Young of Coeur d'Alene, land planning and landscape architecture firm Verdis.

"We hope we get a good turnout," Young said Wednesday. She requested the permit on behalf of the Sting.

Developers calling themselves North Idaho Sports Complex LLC previously sought an 80-acre multi-sport field complex at the same location, which is just off Huetter Road between Prairie and Hayden avenues. The Sting was to be one of the primary users of that planned development.

Andy Barrett, a managing member of the North Idaho Sports Complex, didn't return a call seeking comment.

City of Hayden officials couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

According to the posted notice of the hearing, the applicant proposes that "the remaining 40 acres will be graded and seeded with a dryland pasture mix."

The soccer club wants four artificial turf fields and parking for 260 vehicles. There would be four storage sheds, a vendor and food-court area, and portable bathroom facilities.

The proposal includes soccer field lights reaching 60 feet, and shorter lights for the parking area and pathways. No bleachers or fixed seating are proposed.

The hours of operation for the complex would be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Written testimony may be sent to the city of Hayden's community development and planning department, and must be received by April 11.
