Marie E. (Molsness) Frederick, 95, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away April 9, 2014, in Hayden, Idaho.
Marie was born February 25, 1919, in Great Falls, Mont., to John and Berdina Molsness. She was raised in Kalispell, Mont., where she graduated from high school in 1937. Marie moved to Bremerton, Wash., in 1942, and to Spokane, Wash., in 1950, where she met E.V. "Swede” Frederick. Marie and Swede settled in Coeur d’Alene in 1954, where they owned and operated the Dari Delite restaurant at 13th and Sherman until 1972. They temporarily moved to Pasco, Wash., to manage two restaurants until 1977, when they returned to Coeur d’Alene to retire in a house they built themselves.
Marie was always very active in crafts and taught sewing, embroidery, knitting, crocheting and hardanger embroidery during her daughters’ elementary years and on into her retirement. She entered many works in the Kootenai County Fair which earned her 54 blue ribbons and 11 grand champion ribbons. Marie also taught herself drawing and oil painting, and went on to teach these arts to other area residents. In the early 70’s Marie became interested in the game of golf and played the area courses for about 10 years. In that time she accomplished four hole-in-one’s.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Swede, two grandsons, and one great-grandchild. She is survived by her children: daughters, Betty Mills and Diane Tuntland of Coeur d’Alene, and Hazel Muller of Colbert, Wash., and son, Alan Frederick of Colorado; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 812 N. Fifth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
