Exploring the power of dreams, The Wolfpack Theatre Company’s Acting 4 class will present the enchanting children’s drama, “Gossamer,” April 22-23 at 6:33 p.m. in the Wolfpack Theatre.
Written and adapted for the stage by children’s author Lois Lowry, “Gossamer” follows the story of the dream givers who collect memories and weave them together to create dreams. One young dream giver encounters a lonely old woman and her foster daughter who is fraught with tarnished memories. When the young girl is haunted by nightmares, her dream giver, with her gossamer touch, must find the courage to protect her.
“Simply put, ‘Gossamer’ is a story of how our memories, dreams and imaginations can affect our lives. It reminds us that family and love can get us through the worst nightmares — literally and figuratively,” senior student director Jacklyn Rensel said. “Our cast has all felt a personal connection to this play. Everybody dreams and everybody has gone through rough situations.”
Although there are many lessons offered in this beautiful and haunting tale of dreams, reality and the place where they meet, Rensel and her cast have focused on the lesson of patience woven throughout this production.
“In our play, we have young characters who really need somebody to care for them, and above all, be patient with them,” said Rensel. “When they finally receive that, they thrive.”
With a blend of the real and the fantastic, “Gossamer” is a sensitive and compelling play for young audiences and their families and offers audiences a unique mix of fantasy and realism.
In Acting 4, class members are required to select and produce a play in six weeks. This production of “Gossamer” is produced by Glacier students under the supervision of class instructor Greg Adkins. From tryouts to the final curtain call these students experience all aspects of theatre from the challenging tasks of directing and acting to set design and lighting.
The cast of “Gossamer” includes Rebecca Ames, Mikayla Wilson, Aaron Robinson, Kaleb Turner, Jaclyn Rensel, Jerry Sandler, Chris Cannell, Gwen Hanson, Teesa Palmatier, Kara Brown, Anika Fritz, Mady Rigg and Sophie Joern.
Nathan MacGregor, Gracey Ortel, Josh Pitt, Elise Byle, Ben Habel, Riley Wilton, Katie Christensen and Alexa Lamers make up the stage, sound and lighting crew.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens and are available at the Glacier High School office and Photo Video Plus, or at the door if still available.
