SPIRIT LAKE — Jarrett Plunkett hit a sacrifice fly to right center field in the eighth inning to score Austin Allen, lifting the Timberlake Tigers past the Lakeland Hawks 4-3 in a nonleague game on Thursday afternoon at Timberlake High.

“It was a good ballgame,” Timberlake coach Bill Rider said. “It was exactly what (Lakeland coach) Jason (Bradbury) and I wanted it to be. It was nice to play at a state-level kind of game. Lakeland’s a heck of a squad and it feels like forever since we’d played them. It was a good game.”

Dalton Strong had three hits, including a two-run single in the sixth inning for Lakeland (4-6), which opens 4A Inland Empire League play with a doubleheader at Sandpoint at Pine Street Field.

“It was a well-played, good game,” Rider said. “(Lakeland pitcher) Kris Jackson threw really well for six innings and we kind of stuck around and then found a way to get some runs.”

Mason Cramer had two hits for Timberlake (3-3), which hosts Kellogg-Wallace in an Intermountain League doubleheader on Saturday.

Dylan Wilson also drove in two runs for St. Maries (7-2), which faces Grangeville on Saturday in Lewiston in a Central Idaho League doubleheader.

“St. Maries is a very good program,” Kellogg-Wallace coach Paul Elston said. “(St. Maries coach) Craig Tefft is a gentleman and they could have beaten us 45-3 today, and that’s why we’ve got the respect we do for their program and that’s what we’re trying to become. I’ve got a lot of respect for Craig and how he runs his program.”

SPOKANE — Viking sophomore Breana Burke followed her five-inning perfect game on Tuesday against Moscow by hurling a one-hit shutout in a nonleague rout of the Highlanders (2-4).

Burke struck out eight and walked none for Coeur d’Alene (6-2). Shadle Park’s lone hit came from Berkley Fisher, who singled leading off the fourth.

“She threw a great game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Larry Bieber said. “We played good defense behind her. She hits her spots, she nibbled a little bit and never really threw it right down the middle. She got ahead of her hitters.”

Sydni Parker hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning for the Vikings.

“She kind of set the tone,” Bieber said. “We left a few kids on, they played some pretty good defense. They got a little rattled in the fourth inning and things snowballed from there.”

Brooke Albertson and Kylie Rasmussen each had three runs batted in for Coeur d’Alene, which plays a doubleheader Saturday at Lewiston.

POST FALLS — Morgan Bluemer went 2 for 3 with a run scored and three RBIs, leading the Bulldogs past the Trojans.

“It was probably one of the worst games we’ve played defensively,” said Post Falls coach Jack Foster, whose team committed six errors. “We didn’t have our best effort today and we had a lot of mistakes and they took advantage of them. Sandpoint did a good job and got some hits when they needed to and played good defense.”

Cassie Worley had RBI singles in the first and fourth innings for Post Falls (0-5), which hosts Lake City today in a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.

Lucinda Calvert had three hits for Sandpoint (2-6), which hosts Lakeland on Saturday in a 4A Inland Empire League doubleheader.

“I thought they did a good job again today,” Lakeland assistant coach MaryAnn Podlogar said. “It’s our third straight win, so they’ve been doing a good job this week. Priest River had a good pitcher, and I think both teams played good, but we got lucky with some placement with some of our hits.”

Katie Kastning doubled twice for Lakeland (4-5), which opens 4A Inland Empire League play Saturday with a doubleheader at Sandpoint.

SPIRIT LAKE — The Timberwolf junior varsity broke a 3-all tie with 12 runs in the top of the fifth inning.

“We couldn’t stop the bleeding,” said Timberlake coach Mike Menti, who was thrown out of the game during that inning — the first time in his 14-plus seasons as Tigers coach. “It’s kind of the story of our season — a bad inning, and we don’t recoup.”

Heather Hawkes went 3 for 4 and scored three runs for the Lake City JV. She also struck out five in five innings.

Justina Kalar, who recently was moved up to the leadoff spot, went 3 for 3 and scored a run for Timberlake (2-5), which opens Intermountain League play Saturday at home with a doubleheader vs. defending league champion Kellogg.

“That’s why we play good teams in the preseason,” Menti said. “I know it’s a JV team, but that’s a good JV team.”
