COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls won No. 1 singles and doubles, but Whitefish won all the rest to post a 5-2 dual victory in girls tennis action on Thursday.
Posting wins for Columbia Falls were Emily Getts over Sloan Ellis and Elizabeth Jackson and Baylee Brinton over Ellis and Caroline Carbo.
“It was a real treat to play in sunshine in April,” Columbia Falls coach Jerry Smalley said.
“We’re always looking for surprises in these early matches,” he added.
“I was pleasantly surprised with the teamwork of Elizabeth and Baylee in first doubles.”
In boys action in Whitefish, the Bulldogs defeated Columbia Falls 6-1.
Whitefish won all four singles matches — Logan Blades, Holden Roberts, Bailey Jack and Tommy Murphy — and prevailed at Nos. 2-3 doubles.
“I’m really proud of the guys, how they got started,” Whitefish coach Chris Schwaderer said.
‘We looked really sharp in the first match of the year. There is always a little more on the line when we play Columbia Falls, especially at home. I like the direction we’re going right now ... a great start.”
