Kootenai County Sheriff's Office Deputy Robert "Bob" Bjelland received the Idaho "Boating Educator of the Year 2014" award this month from the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation.

The award is given to individuals who excel in promoting boating safety through education. Recipients are nominated by their agency and then voted on by past award winners.

As a result of receiving the state award, Bjelland has been nominated for the National Boating Law Administrators' "Western States Boating Educator of the Year" award.

"The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office is very proud of Deputy Bjelland's achievement," Sheriff Ben Wolfinger said in a press release. "Kootenai County is very fortunate to have such a devoted and dedicated marine educator."
