Chiefs rally to down Wenatchee

WENATCHEE - Moses Lake boys soccer continues to push the memory of the 0-2 start to the season farther and farther back.
Behind two goals from Johnny Cortez, Moses Lake (2-0, 4-2-1) defeated Wenatchee, 3-2.
The Chiefs have now won four out of their last five matches.
"It's still a long season," head coach Bill Bertram said. "We've been a good team start with. We sorted a few things out there the first couple games, but we've got some talented kids and we should be able to compete. Any time you can beat Wenatchee in their house it's a pretty good indication that you're going in the right direction."
Moses Lake was in an unfamiliar position trailing early when Wenatchee scored just minutes into the match.
However, the Chiefs answered when Cortez was able to beat the Panther keeper off a free kick from Rehn Reiley in the 34th minute.
The two squads entered intermission locked in a 1-1 tie.
Wenatchee once against struck early in the second half and took a 2-1 lead. Cortez answered again, heading in an assist from Alexis Meza.
Moses Lake took the lead for good when Reiley powered in a goal from 40 yards out.
"It was a rocket," Bertram said. "Goalie didn't really have a chance."
After leading for the majority of its matches this season, the Chiefs showed their resilience against the Panthers.
"Generally if it's a goal difference throughout the game we just go about our business and know that we're capable of putting the ball in the net," Bertram said.
Today Moses Lake will face its toughest opponent yet in the Davis Pirates (2-0. 7-0-1). It will be a battle of wills as Moses Lake's explosive offense (22 goals this season) will face the suffocating Davis defense (two goals allowed this season).
"They're typically a stingy defensive team and very capable on offense," Bertram said. "They have a tradition of doing well and we've got a team that can compete with them on Tuesday."
Kick off today is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lions Field.
