POST FALLS - A 31-year-old Post Falls woman has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting at a male acquaintance early Saturday.
Tasha R. Ray was originally charged with felony aggravated assault by Post Falls Police, but the charge was elevated to attempted murder on Monday by the Kootenai County Prosecutor's Office.
The alleged victim, a 43-year-old Post Falls man, was not shot.
Ray was being held at the Kootenai County jail on Monday on a $50,000 bond.
Police responded to the 4100 block of Laurelbrook Drive at 3:45 a.m. for a report of a female who was shooting a handgun at a male outside an apartment complex, according to the police report.
While police were en route to the scene, witnesses said the male fled the area on foot and the female went back inside an apartment in the 3600 block of Donegal Lane, the report states.
Four rounds - two spent and two live - were recovered in the street where the alleged shooting occurred.
While police were processing the scene, the alleged victim returned, the report states. Not knowing whether the male was armed, he was ordered to the ground, handcuffed and questioned.
The male had facial injuries, but declined medical attention.
He told police that he was hoping have sex with Ray, but he was told to leave and she fired the gun after he left. He said both he and Ray had been drinking and had gotten into a physical fight.
The male told police Ray struck him in the face with a closed fist and he slapped her in return.
"As things escalated, Tasha retrieved a pistol from the kitchen area and placed a magazine into it," the report states. "He wasn't overly concerned until she began to point it at him, telling him to (leave). (The male) started to gather his things out of the apartment while Tasha followed with the gun."
The male said he walked outside when he heard a "pop."
"(The male) realized she was actually shooting at him and he began to run," the report states. "He heard at least one more gunshot before getting out of the area."
During the investigation, Ray, also bleeding, was located in the area of Highway 41 and Prairie Avenue trying to flag people down, police said. She was arrested without incident and she didn't have a gun on her. She was evaluated by medics, but told them she didn't need to go to the hospital.
Ray told police she fired the pistol twice "in the air" in the street outside her apartment. She said she didn't fire toward the male.
However, a witness told police that he saw Ray fire the gun at the male.
When asked by police why she fired the gun, she said: "I don't even know."
She told police she had been drinking and wasn't sure how she got home from a bar. She said that she hadn't been in a fight and wasn't sure how she became bloody.
Police were unable to find the gun used in the alleged incident. Ray's two children at the apartment were released to their grandmother, police said.
The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office and Rathdrum Police assisted PFPD.
