MOSES LAKE - Despite not receiving the immense outpouring of runs that had seemingly started to become typical throughout the last week and a half, Moses Lake notched its sixth and seventh win in a row.
The Chiefs hosted Davis for a doubleheader on Friday, three days after an 18-4 beat down.
Both of Friday's games provided much more drama with Moses Lake edging Davis 4-0 in game one and 4-3 in the second.
"Just a good start to the beginning of the league schedule," head coach Quintz Whitaker said.
Chase Tunstall opened the twin bill with a gem, throwing seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts.
On two occasions (in the second and fifth inning) when Davis had runners on first and second base with one out, Tunstall was able to fan two Pirates in a row to wiggle out of the jam and continue his shutout.
"For us in the dugout he's such a calming presence," Whitaker said.
The majority of Moses Lake's offense in the first game came in the third inning that was sparked by and Erick Huberdeau single.
Huberdeau finished 2 for 2 with two singles and walk.
Next, Cole Raymond was able to draw a walk which brought up Tyson Karstetter.
Karstetter powered a RBI single and Blake Springer was able to power a two-run double one batter later.
Springer was 2 for 3 on the day.
The nightcap was a back and forth affair with Moses Lake jumping out to a 4-1 lead after three innings. Davis tacked on two more runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-3 before Jaime Vela came on in relief of Kevin Cosper. Vela provided three scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Brett Moser led Moses Lake with two hits.
The Chiefs will put their streak on the line today against Sunnyside at home. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
