PARENTS: Help teachers, students

Our children are a great part of the future of our country. A great education is critical to their future and generations beyond. As a mother of seven children, I am fully aware of what is happening in the schools. Most people are aware of the budget cuts in the schools, but not aware of the impact it has on teachers in the classroom.

In our area, most teachers receive $100 per year for their classroom supplies. If they need anything beyond the $100 that is given, it comes out of their pocket. I have heard of teachers resigning because they couldn’t afford to supply what is needed. I am talking about Kleenex, pencils, pens, erasers, markers, etc. The PTA and other organizations within the school help with this shortfall as best they can. I am the treasurer of Coeur d’Alene High School and we are working with a store that is helping put dollars toward these needs. The Coeur d’Alene Exchange and The Hayden Exchange. They have given more than $35,000 to the schools that participate with their program.

Please consider donating items, donations are low right now, as well as do some shopping there. They have regular everyday items as well as a lot of great furniture, antiques and collectibles. They deal with estate sales.

Drop off box tops, soup labels and purchased school supplies, especially when you can get them cheap at the first of the school year. The stores can get them to classrooms. Let’s make a difference!
