This will be a building year for tennis.

The team has grown this year, with 13 boys and 18 girls, but they are less experienced.

“We’ve got a lot of young players,” coach Paul Sullivan said.

Sophomore Adam Jordt and junior Isaac Martel who placed sixth last year at state in doubles will lead the boy’s team.

“They’re looking good,” Sullivan said.

Senior Alanis Stallknecht will lead the girls. “She’s hitting great ball already this year,” Sullivan said.

Brooke Bonner and freshman Kalia Wicklund also look as though they will be strong players for the girls.

With many new players on the team Sullivan said himself, and co-coach Mike Bonner will have to experiment with doubles pairings to see what works.

The tennis teams played their first matches of the season Tuesday against Glacier.

“Playing Glacier is always so weird because they’re such a big school,” Sullivan said before the match. He was uncertain which players they would bring, but was excited to see how some of the Bigfork athletes stacked up.

“Some of the kids, I’m really excited to see what they can do,” he said. For some of the others he anticipated it would be a big learning experience.

“Any way you slice it it’s good stuff.”
