‘Opal’

Flathead Valley Community College Theatre, April 17-19 and 24-26, 7 p.m. 

The Flathead Valley Community College Theatre will present the musical story of a 7-year-old aristocratic girl who is orphaned in a shipwreck and placed in an Oregon lumber camp in 1904. Opal’s one desire is to find a way to return to her parents and her former life, and to survive, she creates a world of fantasy and enchantment. 

FVCC instructors Nick and Rebecca Spear will make their debut as directors at FVCC for the production. 

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens. Admission is free for students. Advance tickets can be purchased at the FVCC Bookstore in Blake Hall, by calling 756-3814 or online at www.fvcc.edu/fvcctheatre.html.

The FVCC Theatre is inside the Arts and Technology Building. 

 

‘Winter in the Blood’

Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

O’Shaughnessy Center, Whitefish, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.  

 The film’s directors, Alex and Andrew Smith, as well as two of the movie’s actors, Chaske Spencer (who played Sam Uley in the “Twilight” films) and Lily Gladstone will be part of the Flathead Valley premieres of the Montana-made film based on the novel by James Welch. Both nights are fundraisers for the Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell.  

Each event begins at 6 p.m. with a reception featuring wine, beer and appetizers in the lobby, with the film and question and answer sessions beginning at 7:30 p.m. 

“Winter in the Blood” was the first of five novels written by James Welch, a Native American poet, author, documentary scriptwriter and historical essayist. The book is the story of Virgil First Raise, whose life struggles lead him on a journey to grasp the truth of his origins. The directors shot the film on the Hi-Line of Montana, where the novel was born.

Khambatta Dance Company 

O’Shaughnessy Center, Whitefish, April 17, 7:30 p.m. 

 

The Whitefish Theatre Company presents an evening with the Seattle-based troupe. Khambatta Dance Company is a five-member, award-winning contemporary dance group that has performed throughout the world for over 20 years. The company contrasts rigorous partnering and athletic movement with authentic human content to create emotionally moving dance. 

Tickets are $20 for adults and $8 for students with all seats reserved.  Tickets can be purchased at the box office , 1 Central Ave., Whitefish, today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and one hour before the performance, or by calling 862-5371. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.whitefishtheatreco.org.  

 

African Children’s Choir

Easthaven Baptist Church, Wednesday, April 23, 7 p.m. 

The Kalispell program will feature well-loved children's songs, traditional spirituals and gospel favorites in a free concert. A free-will offering will be taken to support the nonprofit African Children's Choir programs, dedicated to helping Africa's most vulnerable children.

‘Gossamer’

Glacier High School, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22-23, 6:33 p.m. 

 

Exploring the power of dreams, The Wolfpack Theatre Company’s Acting 4 class will present the enchanting children’s drama. Written and adapted for the stage by children’s author Lois Lowry, “Gossamer” follows the story of the dream givers who collect memories and weave them together to create dreams. One young dream giver encounters a lonely old woman and her foster daughter who is fraught with tarnished memories. When the young girl is haunted by nightmares, her dream giver, with her gossamer touch, must find the courage to protect her.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens and are available at the Glacier High School office and Photo Video Plus, or at the door if still available.
