PULLMAN - Derek Bayley of Lakeland shot a 6-under-par 66 to earn medalist honors and lead the Hawks to a second-place finish at the 28-team Palouse Ridge Invitational on Thursday at Palouse Ridge Golf Course.

Bayley, who has signed to play next year at Washington State - whose home course is Palouse Ridge - strung together five straight birdies, on holes 8-12.

Lakeland coach Mario Maddy said Bayley also lipped out an eagle putt on 14 and lipped out a birdie putt on 16.

"He's put in some really good rounds lately," said Maddy of Bayley, who has posted two 69s and a 66 in recent weeks. "He's hitting form, and it's good timing."

On a rainy day, Bayley won by one stroke over Tanner Comes of Ferris, which won the team title with a 289.

Preston Roth shot 76, Andrew Knight 78 and Hayden Nosworthy 82 for Lakeland.

"Our kids competed really, really well," Maddy said. "That's one of the highest level competitions we'll see all year, with most of the top teams from Spokane and North Idaho."

Corey Beaver and Colton Serdahl each shot 76 for Post Falls, which placed fourth at 311.

Lake City, led by Jake Vetsch's 78, was seventh at 321. Coeur d'Alene was ninth at 325.

Next up for the boys is the Kraus Invitational on Monday at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden Lake.

COEUR d'ALENE - After taking a commanding 8-1 lead after the first period, Lake City won its home opener by beating Logos in North Idaho Lacrosse League play.

Max Johnson scored five goals, including a hat trick in the first period, and Lucas Ross added four goals, including two in the first period.

Zach Kerzman made five saves in net for Lake City (2-0), which travels to Coeur d'Alene next Friday.

Tennis: No makeup dates were announced for Post Falls at Coeur d'Alene, Lake City at Moscow and Lakeland at Coeur d'Alene Charter.
