Clean The Falls

Volunteers for the annual Clean The Falls spring cleaning project can meet at the Glacier Bank parking lot on the U.S. 2 strip in Columbia Falls and organize for cleanup areas with a map. The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Prize drawings will be handed out at the bank at 11 a.m. For more information, call Mark Johnson at 751-4756 or Diane Taylor at 892-1640.

Farmers market

The Columbia Falls Farmer Market committee will hold a special vendors meeting in the city council chambers on Thursday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. The Thursday market is expected to be open on May 29 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Fourth Avenue West next to the Pinewood Park pool. Mary Jo Marceau-Hawthorne is the new market coordinator. For more information, call her at 892-2072.

Lewis and Clark

The Glacier Gateway fourth-grade classes will present a musical, “The Adventures of Lewis and Clark,” in the Columbia Falls High School’s Little Theater on Friday, April 25, at 1:45 p.m. A morning matinee will be presented for Glacier Gateway students at 9:30 a.m. A reception will follow the afternoon performance, which is a part of fourth graders’ study of Lewis and Clark.

Quilts for kids

A quilting class for kids ages 10-14 will be offered at the Columbia Falls High School home economics room on June 16, 17, 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration is  limited to 10 youths. Cost is $15. All supplies are furnished. Teakettle Quilt Guild will provide instruction.

Kindergarten round-up

The Columbia Falls School District 6 Kindergarten Round-up will be held at Glacier Gateway Elementary on Thursday, April 24, and Ruder Elementary on Friday, April 25, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Parents can register children and meet teachers. A birth certificate and immunization records are required to register children, who must be five years old by Sept. 10. Senior fundraiser

The North Valley Senior Center will hold its annual book and puzzle sale on Friday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Money raised at the sale will be used for a new roof on the center on Nucleus Avenue in Columbia Falls.

Arts showcase

The Columbia Falls Academic Endowment Fund will hold an arts showcase show and sale, featuring a live and silent auction, at Truby’s Bar and Grill at Meadow Lake Resort, on Thursday, May 1, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Featured artwork for sale will include pieces from Rusti Warner, Allen Jimmerson, Greg Trenerry and Nellie Lutz. Cost is $15 per person and includes hors d’oeuvres.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flathead County will hold its spring fundraiser at the Rack Shack on Flathead Lake in Somers on Thursday, May 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $200, which includes dinner and drinks for two and a chance to win prizes. Democrat dinner

The Flathead Democratic Party and Flathead Democratic Women will hold their spring dinner and live auction at the Hilton Hotel in Kalispell on Saturday, May 3. Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
