Loggers, Trojans compete in T-Falls track meet

Both Libby and Troy’s track teams traveled to Thompson Falls for Thursday’s meet.

Troy’s Sean Opland won gold in the high jump (6-0) and long jump (20-7). Fellow Trojan Michael Miller won the 400-meter dash and second place finishes by Nathan Olds and Pate Scott in the high jump and long jump, respectively, propelled the Trojan boys to third overall. Senior hurler Gabe Hickman, an All-State point guard and quarterback, helped with a pair of second-place finishes in the javelin and shot put.

Libby’s Marlena Urvater was her team’s highest finisher, claiming second in the long jump (15-2). Shyla Stevenson earned third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 68.06 seconds. Jonathan Miller’s sixth-place finish in the pole vault earned Libby’s only points in the boys competition.

Troy will attend the Libby Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Mountain pleads not guilty to seven Yaak burglary charges

Not guilty, seven times over. That was the plea Monday when Zachary Michael Mountain, 19, was arraigned before District Judge James Wheelis. Mountain faces as many as 140 years in prison for his alleged involvement last year in a string of felony burglaries in the Yaak.
