ROYAL CITY - The Seed Cupboard Nursery will kick off the new gardening season this Saturday, April 26, with a Garden Party and Vintage Fair.

"It is all about welcoming the season," proprietor Lisa Villegas said.

Garden Party & Vintage Fair will be celebrated from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The greenhouse will be filled with colorful annual flowers. The grounds will be covered with shrubs, trees, roses, perennials and more annuals and hanging baskets and potted plants as well as garden décor.

"There will also be some great sales going on that day," Villegas said.

The Garden Party is an annual event. This year Villegas has added the Vintage Fair, which will include the unique pieces of garden decor from The Painted Petal and De'Layed Chic.

Joleen Ervin is the artist behind The Painted Petal. She has a flare for refurbishing old furniture, as well as recycling old things for fun useful purposes. She is on Facebook.

De'Layed Chic is made up of a family of five women connected to the Delay family. They each bring a special art to their goods. They, too, are on Facebook.

"We can't wait to see the many items these women will bring," Villegas said. "We hope to make this a part of the Garden Party each year."

Providing the food for Garden Party and Vintage Fair will be the Garden Grill & Bakery, operated by Danielle Smith. It will be open all season.

"We opened for the season last Wednesday, and we had a lot of people. We were pleasantly surprised," said Smith, who partners with Villegas on the mobile eatery.

The regular menu includes breakfast, pastries, burgers, sandwiches, salads, kids menu, desserts, snack items and drinks.

Smith bakes an assortment of pastries, including banana bread from her grandma's recipe, and homemade burger buns, as well as white chocolate bread pudding and miniature angel food cakes.
