Don was born in Stomsburg, Neb., on July 31, 1924, to Frank and Elsie (Gustafson) Burgeson. He attended school in Stomsburg until 9th grade, then moved to a farm southwest of Onida, S.D, in 1939. Don graduated from high school in 1943, and stayed on the family farm raising livestock and row crops until 1992.
In 1967, Don married Barbara in Custer, S.D., and they were blessed with three children: Tammy, Michael, and Mark. After retiring in 1992, Don and Barbara moved with their son, Mark, to Coeur’Alene, Idaho.
Don was active on the Sully Buttes School Board for 22 years, was a past member of the Elks Club, a member of the S.D. Pork Producers, and the United Methodist Church in Onida. Don was also a member of the Coeur d’Alene Bible Church.
Don loved trains and could spend hours watching them. He also dearly loved his family, and always looked forward to their visits and holiday gatherings. Don left his family with a legacy of working hard but at the end of the day, cherishing your family and God.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elsie; sister, Dorothy Jackson; brother, Wallace Burgeson; and infant son, Bruce Allen. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Tammy Osborn (Dean) of Dallas, Texas; sons, Michael Burgeson (Stephanie) of Yankton, S.D., and Mark Burgeson (Angie) of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and five grandsons: Justin Osborn (22), Brody Burgeson (11), Issac Burgeson (8), Hudson Burgeson (7), and Nicholas Burgeson (5).
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at the English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene. The family suggests memorials to: Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.
