Trout anglers by the thousands will be heading into Central Washington for the annual lowland lake opener, and if you haven't make reservations for a camping spot, you can still find some places that have room.

One of the most popular lakes that offers good shore access is Jameson Lake. I have been here many times on opening weekend and there is a large area for dry camping open on the south end. Fish Lake, near Lake Wenatchee, has a very large campground that never seems to fill. Up north at Conconully, there are resorts and a State Park, and the last time I was there on opening day the State Park had plenty of room.

I also want to remind families that plan to go boating to have life jackets for everyone on board. They are required to be worn by kids twelve years old and younger. Before you launch your boat, test fire the motor. Dead batteries or bad plugs can kill a weekend.

For many boaters opening day is one of the few days they use their boats, so plan waiting for people to back down the ramp. Oh, and be sure to load you boat before you back down onto the ramp.
