MATTAWA - After dropping a 2-1 overtime contest to Royal and into fourth place in SCAC soccer last week, Wahluke jumped back into second place by blanking Highland 1-0.
When the dust cleared Thursday night, Granger had one loss, Highland and Wahluke two each and Royal three.
"Two teams have definitely fallen to the bottom," coach Arthur DeVictoria said. "The rest of the teams are in the race for the top six spots."
The top six at the end of the campaign will make it to district and a sure-to-be war for state tournament berths.
Senior keeper Alan Caro and freshman forward Emmanuel Hidalgo were the keys for the Warriors.
Caro had nine saves, and none was bigger than one that occurred in the 28th minute. Facing a penalty kick at 18 yards alone, he deflected the Highland shot away from the goal.
The Warriors went ahead to stay in the 40th minute when Hidalgo nailed the lone goal of the match on a feed from Juan Estrada. Estrada dribbled about 20 yards down the left side and forced the Scottie keeper to come out. He then crossed the ball to Hidalgo, who booted it to the far post.
Before the Royal loss, the Warriors defeated Kiona-Benton 7-0.
"We lost to them last year for the first time ever, and we were unsure what team would show up to play this year," DeVictora said.
The Warriors left nothing to chance. They attacked early and often to build a 5-0 lead in the 22nd minute.
The Warriors had multiple players score. Hidalgo opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, Ramon Bravo scored in the 12th, Arnaldo Bravo tallied in the 15th, Charlie Ramos struck in the 20th and Luis Vaca unloaded in the 22nd.
In the 47th minute, Luis Vaca scored on a penalty kick and, in the 64th minute, Hermilo Tlatelpa scored on a corner kick that was sent in by Josh Gatica.
