SANDPOINT — Like any other form of communication, art has its own language — and when you learn it, it can open up entirely new worlds.

Throughout her long career as an art educator, Sandpoint resident Sandy Deutchman has been exploring that language. A Washington State University emerita professor of fine arts with a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees,  Deutchman has passed on her findings to many a student in the past.

This week, she’ll be taking on some new pupils after many years of retirement with a Friends of the Library talk set for 12 p.m. Thursday at the Sandpoint Library. The event aims to introduce the audience to the wonder of art — particularly the more abstract varieties.
