A Maricopa, Ariz., man has pleaded not guilty to felony assault with a weapon after allegedly attacking another man with a sword.
Shane Wyman, 55, entered the plea April 17 in Flathead District Court.
According to a court document, a Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to Cobbler Village early April 2 to investigate a report of a physical disturbance. The resident and her father, Wyman, reportedly saw her half-brother, who is also her neighbor, punching Wyman’s rental car.
Wyman then allegedly grabbed a small sword hanging on the wall and went outside to confront the man, who went back inside his own home.
When Wyman knocked on the man’s door, he answered, and Wyman allegedly stabbed at him, scratching his abdomen. The man reportedly grabbed the blade of the sword to protect himself, cutting his hands. At that point, Wyman allegedly punched him several times in the head.
Similar statements about had occurred were reportedly given by everyone involved, with Wyman allegedly admitting his actions.
A dispatch log indicated the woman initially reported the man told her over the phone that he would “blow up her house and kill her kids,” and that she had also pointed an unloaded gun at him and pull the trigger to show him she meant business.
The woman initially was arrested, but has not been charged with a crime.
If convicted, Wyman faces up to 20 years in the Montana State Prison and a fine of up to $50,000. His next hearing is set for Aug. 27.
