Family Forestry Expo marks 25 years

Family Forestry Expo, a tradition of the Flathead Valley every spring for the past 25 years, will be held at the Trumbull Creek Educational Forest, between Columbia Falls and Whitefish, on May 5-10.
On Monday through Friday nearly 1,200 local fifth-grade students from 28 schools will visit the Expo grounds off Tamarack Lane. On Saturday, the Expo will open to the public and is free of charge.
The family-oriented event features a short forest walk with educational stations, demonstrations and hands-on activities about the many uses of our forests, private and public.
A grand stand show featuring logging equipment demonstrations and the Forest Service Spotted Bear Ranger District mule pack string will be presented on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Various exhibits featuring local organizations, businesses and agencies that deal with natural resources also will be on display. A free logging camp lunch will be provided between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. compliments of Family Forestry Expo.
