ML girls track 3rd in Hermiston

HERMISTON, Ore. - Moses Lake girls track and field narrowly missed placing second at the Hermiston Invite recently.
The Chiefs took third place with 81 points, just behind Southridge's 82. Kamiakin took first with 169 points.
Throughout the season, sprinters Alysha Overland and Caylah Lunning have been jockeying for the fastest time in the 100 meters.
At the Hermiston Invite Alysha was able to record of time of 12.42 seconds, breaking Lunning's best time of 12.46 seconds.
Despite breaking the school record in the event, the time was only good for third place.
Overall, Alysha's time ranks her fifth fastest in the state while Lunning narrowly trails in sixth.
Head coach Nicki Weiland is unsure who will run the fastest time when the season is finished.
Alysha also finished first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.67 seconds and second in the 400 meters with a time of 59.69 seconds.
Lunning inched closer to the school record in the long jump with a mark of 18' 1.50", good for first place in Hermiston. The Moses Lake record in the long jump is 18' 3.50".
Lunning also finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.54 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.78 seconds.
Arlena Hannan took sixth in the 300 meter hurdles, while Selina Kook took third place in both the high jump and long jump.
Heather Carbon finished fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 9'6" and Elly Johnson took sixth in discus with a mark of 112'7". Alexis Harper also finished second in the 2k steeplechase.
Casci Carpenter, Stephanie Overland, Hannan and Taylor Yamane took seventh in the 1600 meter relay while the team of Kayla Grigg, Lunning, Hannan and Alysha Overland took third in the 400 meter relay.
For the boys, Colton Rose placed sixth in the shot put, Trey Strickland finished seventh in the high jump and Ben Crowell took eighth in the long jump.
Moses Lake competes in a CBBN meet against Eisenhower April 30 in Yakima.
