Scholarly work unfolds on Friday

Approximately 100 students from Flathead Valley Community College, the University of Montana and Whitefish High School will present their research projects during the college’s fifth annual Scholars Conference on Student Research on Friday.

Students will present their research, portfolios and projects to college faculty, staff, students and members of the community.

More than 25 student presentations will be delivered and nearly 65 research posters will be showcased.

Project topics will range widely in such categories as biology, natural resources, remote sensing, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, history, psychology, anthropology, nursing, business and computer science.

The event in the Arts and Technology Building is open to the public.

James McKusick, dean of the Davidson Honors College at UM, and Logan Warberg, presidential scholar at Montana State University, will join Ivan Lorentzen, director of the Scholars Program at FVCC , and scholar students Christian Stratton and Michael Selhost to kick off the event in the large community meeting room at 12:15 p.m.

Presentations will take place every half hour from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the classrooms on the upper level of the building.

The research poster exhibitions will take place in the large community meeting room from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.

The event will conclude at 5 p.m. with a ceremony and reception honoring award winners and 2014 Scholars Program graduates.
