A sexual assault reported in Troy earlier this month is still under investigation and no arrests have been made, the Lincoln County Sheriff says.

Though the sheriff’s office had initially been dealing with two reports of rape in the early hours of July 5 – one at the weigh station and one in an alley in Troy - yesterday Roby Bowe said the office was now only investigating the assault at the weigh station.

The assault in the alley was investigated and found to be unfounded, Bowe said.

Two detectives were working on leads following the rape of a 44-year-old woman at the weigh station at 1:42 a.m. on July 5.

Bowe said the offender was not known to the victim. A description was not available because of the nature of the attack.

“We don’t know if it was a transient or if it was a married guy with kids,” Bowe said. “We’re working every day, on every lead. We’ve had a few calls and are talking to people.”

The attack was not linked to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the weigh station early Sunday morning, July 5, Bowe said.

Bowe advised the public to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to the sheriff’s department.
