BONNERS FERRY - A Bonners Ferry man died of an apparent suicide at the Boundary County Jail after being arrested on Wednesday, according to the sheriff's office.
David Lee Erickson, 43, was arrested in Bonners Ferry on a warrant and further charged with resisting arrest. Boundary County Sheriff Chief Deputy Rich Stevens said a Taser was used to subdue Erickson during the arrest, but he was not injured and in good health when Erickson was booked into the jail for the night.
Erickson, who was housed alone, hanged himself during the night, the sheriff's office said. Foul play is not suspected and no other subjects were involved in the incident.
All inmates held at the jail are checked on every 30 minutes for their safety. Upon discovering Erickson, cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed and he was taken to Boundary County Hospital, but he could not be revived, the sheriff's office said.
Sheriff Greg Sprungl has requested that Idaho State Police conduct an investigation into Erickson's death. The investigation is ongoing, and autopsy and toxicology reports are pending.
Erickson, according to the Idaho Supreme Court Data Repository, was wanted on a warrant in Bonner County for failing to pay fines and fees related to a 2013 case charging him with driving without privileges and failure to provide proof of insurance.
