Tonight’s Kalispell City Council meeting is bound to be dominated by the process of appointing one of 11 people who have applied to finish the term of former council member Randy Kenyon.

State law requires that a majority of the council members must approve of a replacement, but it does not spell out a process for doing so.

The council is likely to discuss the best way to go about narrowing the field of applicants.

Mayor Mark Johnson has said that he wants the council to hear from applicants who “are serious” about their desire to serve on the council.

Those who have applied are Steve Burglund, Jim Cossitt, John Hinchey, Rick Hull, Lance Isaak, Rod Kuntz, Mary Kay Myett, Bill Nelson, Karlene Osorio-Khor, Mark Rold and Jonathan Smith.

Kenyon resigned last month because he moved out of the city to a new home in the North Fork. His term expires at the end of 2015.

Also on the agenda, the council will consider final plat approval for phase four of Mountain Vista Estates, a subdivision north of Three Mile Drive that was initially approved in 2007. The final plat involves 19 residential lots and it is in compliance with all preliminary plat conditions.

The council meets at 7 p.m. today at City Hall on First Avenue East.
