States have role in border defense

The states have two articles in the Constitution they can use to protect our borders.

Article 1; Section 10, in the last sentence, says: “No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.”

Article 4, Section 4, says: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”

This country is under invasion. Most of these people are coming here for all the welfare they can get. Yeah, some come to work, but they can get a green card. We as a nation have conquered most diseases, but with all these people coming across our border, they are bringing back all these diseases.

Americans must get off their backs and start forcing the states and the feds to uphold their oaths to the Constitution and close our borders. —Fred Hammel, Kalispell

Legislators should not be considered government workers

For years I had been wondering why we never get anything accomplished in government. Then it dawned on me. Our elected officials get the same benefits as government employees. They are all in bed with each other.

Turn election of senators back to states

Mr. Still wrote a very good letter on March 3 about restoring checks and balances to Congress.  Repealing the 17th Amendment, would do just that.
