Johnston breaks record

Ryggs Johnston, a Libby local, blew away tournament records with a score of 62 at the U.S. Kids Golf Teen World Championship on July 24 to 26 in Pinehurst, N.C. 

Johnstons reached his record-breaking score of 62, 10-under-par. Johnston surpassed the record with ninebirdies and an eagle at the championship’s Pinehurst number 6 in a division with 145 other participants out of 550 total players from across the world. Johnston shot 73-73 in the first two rounds.

A week before the championship in Pinehurst, Johnston tied 36 of 161 in the boys division at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, Calif., finishing 6 over par.
