Cross country practice

The Columbia Falls High School cross-country team will start practice at the high school track on Friday, Aug. 15, at 7:30 a.m. Athletes must have a physical completed after May 1, 2014, to be eligible to attend practice. Practice time will remain 7:30 a.m. for the week of Aug. 18-22. For more information, contact coach Richard Menicke at 871-3375.

Fall sports

A player-parent-coaches meeting for all student athletes playing fall sports at Columbia Falls High School will take place at the high school Little Theater on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. All players and their parents should plan on attending to learn about rule changes and other protocols for playing fall sports. Sports practices will start Aug. 14 or 15.

Youth soccer

Youths from kindergarten through eighth grade can sign up for youth soccer under the Flathead Rapids by visiting online at www.flatheadrapids.com and downloading the form or by calling 407-5259.

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
