A two-vehicle accident killed a Columbia Falls woman in Hungry Horse on Thursday afternoon.

The name of the 79-year-old woman has not been released, said Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jim Schneider.

The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 2 and Fifth Street West when an SUV and a Toyota Camry collided around 5 p.m. The woman who died was a passenger in the Camry.

The driver and one other passenger were transported to the hospital. No one from the SUV was transported to the hospital.

The SUV, driven by an Alberta woman, was on Fifth Street West indicating a right turn onto U.S. 2. A third vehicle, a pickup truck that was not involved in the crash, was indicating a right turn off of U.S. 2 onto Fifth Street West.

The Camry, carrying three passengers, was westbound on U.S. 2 and went to pass the pickup as it slowed down, and the Camry T-boned the SUV.

The driver, a 72-year-old man from Columbia Falls, and one other passenger, an 81-year-old Columbia Falls woman, were transported to the hospital.

Passengers in the SUV — a 42-year-old woman, 47-year-old man, and a 3-year-old boy, all from Calgary — suffered minor injuries.
