Spumoni Blues blends musical flavors

SANDPOINT — On the surface, Spumoni Blues is an unlikely musical match-up. A pretty and petite lead singer delivers smoky, blues-tinged vocals, while a veteran of the country music touring circuit weaves tastily crafted lead guitar lines around her melodies. Beneath it all, a bass player holds down the groove in a surprisingly perfect concoction of soul with a dash of samba flair.
Their road to becoming a band was just as implausible. In fact, it reads a bit like a movie script: Elementary school band teacher seeks new ways to inspire her young players to practice, finds school janitor who has hung up his guitar for good and talks him into performing again — just this one last time.
