A slew of live music, raffles, kids activities and more are all part of this year’s Hootenanny Music Festival. Don K Subaru has teamed with the Whitefish Legacy Partners to present the annual festival, which will take place in Depot Park on Aug. 22, from 5-9 p.m.

The Lil’ Smokies, The New Wave Time Trippers and Moonshine Mountain will perform at the event. The Hootenanny will also include a kids bike rodeo and obstacle course, climbing rock wall, hula hooping, art station, a community thumbprint tree project and a raffle with prizes from Paddlefish Sports, Great Northern Cycles and many other Whitefish businesses. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Whitefish Trail is the anchor project of Whitefish Legacy Partners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing public access and recreation while protecting clean water, thriving forests and prime wildlife habitat on open lands surrounding Whitefish.

The trail offers more than 25 miles of natural surface trails and seven trailheads located in a forested, rural environment popular for biking, hiking and equestrian use.

The Hootenanny is an effort to raise the remaining $400,000 of an original $2 million dollar community fundraising goal, which needs to be met in 2014 to complete projects such as new trails at Spencer Mountain, the Learning Pavilion at Lion Mountain, and the Beaver Lake conservation easement.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the gate, with kids under ten free. Gates will open at 4:30. Tickets can be purchased at the Great Northern Brewery and Glacier Cyclery & Nordic. For more information, call 862.3880 or visit www.whitefishlegacy.org.
