MATTAWA - The Mattawa Area Comm"Unity" Days will serve a free breakfast on Saturday morning, Aug. 16 to kick off the second day of the festival.

For the past three years, local farmers have sponsored the free breakfast, and WEO (Wahluke Enhancement Organization) volunteers have cooked it. Once again, the WEO has volunteered to cook, but still needed are pancake mix, juice, water, sausages and butter.

"There are plenty of events that will help us stay active and healthy," committee member Maggie Celaya said. "You can start the morning with the color run and still have plenty of time to participate in a tournament.

There will be 5-on-5 soccer at the Mattawa Elementary soccer field starting at 10 a.m. The 3-on-3 basketball tourney will be in the Leprekon parking lot. Both tournaments support local youths who represent Mattawa in non-school leagues.

The fun run, chaired by Sharee Zirker and the DYW girls will cost a $20 registration fee, which will cover the cost of a commemorative shirt. The 5K run will begin at 8 a.m., and the 1-mile will begin at 8:15 a.m.

Wahluke Junior High Dean of Students Sean Langdon's band, Groove Principal, will entertain on Saturday in the park. There will be dancing horses.

Activities will include the 5-on-5 soccer tournament at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Registration will be $10 per player, for all genders, ages 13 and up, and CoEd teams. For more information, contact Cele Lopez 509-439-9751.
