MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake wrestling program received a generous donation recently after roughly $7,000 was raised by local sponsors and community members at the Moses Lake Wrestling Golf Tournament.

"It was an incredible event all the way around," head wrestling coach Jaime Garza said. "I just can't thank our community (enough) for the support that was given on that particular day."

The tournament comprised of 25 teams, 98 golfers and 38 hole sponsors.

Garza felt the turn out was a great success since the Moses Lake Wrestling Golf Tournament was on a bit of a hiatus.

"It's been about five years since Moses Lake wrestling has had a golf tournament," he said. "To go out there and get 25 teams and get nearly 100 people golfing, I would consider that a huge success. It just shows the support our community has given to Moses Lake wrestling and not just Moses Lake wrestling, but to all sports."

Garza wanted to thank Jim and Jill McCullough, Matt and Jodi Mauseth and Ariel and Corrine Garza for helping make the event a great success.

"I just can't thank them enough for the time that they spent prior to just organizing the event and it was ran well," he said. "We heard several positive things and several people that looked forward to coming back the following year."

Agricom donated the golf carts used at the event and Basin Refrigeration walked away the victors.

Gabe DeLeon's team finished second and Mike Lopez's team finished third.

The funds raised at this year's tournament will help send Moses Lake wrestlers to summer camps, pay for equipment and pay for meals for the wrestlers.

With a wrestling tradition as rich as Moses Lake's, Garza wants his team to have as great an advantage as possible entering this season and future seasons.

Summer camps that hone skills ensure that.

"Last thing I would like our team to be is prohibited to improving over the summer," Garza said.
