PLAINS – Three human caused fires were extinguished at the popular local swimming spot referred to as “the mouth.”
The fires totaled approximately ½ acre in all. One fire occurred on the west side of the mouth of Swamp Creek, while the other two ignited the east side of the mouth of Swamp Creek.
The call came in at approximately 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6. One Forest Service engine and three DNRC engines responded to the blazes. The fires were extinguished after 3 ½ hours.
DNRC Fire Supervisor Calvin Minemyer stated that although the fires were definitely human caused, he was unable to confirm whether or not the fires were arson. Arson is defined as the criminal act of deliberately setting fire to property.
The fires are currently under investigation with the DNRC and no additional information was available.
